Sumario:The article aims to analyse the complex arrangements and solidarities organised between women in the shaping of family relationships marked by female centrality. Based on women’s family histories in dialogue with a vast literature on maternity, “women’s families”, matrifocality, etc., it argues that the networks articulated between women should not be understood as strategies against the pressures of a so-called “feminisation of poverty” but are part of a “nexus of cultivation” that brings together various layers of care and affection. These care practices, which mainly involve children and the elderly, involve women from different generations and social backgrounds who, participating to various degrees, make up a tangle that keeps them connected to each other.
