| Sumario: | In this research, we demonstrate that the current homonymy in the third person plural of the simple past and pluperfect results from a variation process and multifunctionality of the forms –ra and –ro in Galician-Portuguese data. In this way, we characterize the current homonymy as a process of embedded change by semantic and phonological correlative movements. For the development of this research, we considered four types of prose: literary, historical, religious and legal, whose data were quantified and triangulated, to check trends by textual genre, what follows the finding about a variation process that leads to the paradigmatic narrowing. |
