Sumario:Although the diet of marsupials is widely studied in an Atlantic Forest environment, the selection of food by this group is not well known. This study aimed to characterize the availability of invertebrates in the environment and its selection by the marsupials Marmosops incanus and Marmosa demerarae, from August 2014 to May 2015, in a fragment of Atlantic Forest in state of Sergipe. An entomological umbrella was utilized in the canopy of 18 trees to sample the invertebrates in the area and the marsupials were captured using 60 Sherman traps on the ground and 1.5 m above this. Their feces were collected and conditioned in recipients with 70% alcohol. A total of 1098 invertebrates were captured and classified in 15 orders, being Hymenoptera (29.41%), Coleoptera (26.41%) and Araneae (26.23%) the most representative. The fecal analysis of M. incanus (N = 19) and M. demerarae (N = 37) characterized the species as insectivorous, being Hemiptera, Coleoptera, Lepidoptera and Hymenoptera the most representative groups in the diet of these species. By the paired Hotelling test it was observed that there was selection of invertebrates by both, M. demerarae (p<0,000001) and M. incanus (p <0.00005). Despite the low availability in the environment, the marsupials selected representatives of the order Lepidoptera during the study period. Orthoptera, Aranae e Pulmonata were frequent in the RVSMJ but little consumed or not recorded in the diet of the marsupials species.
