Sumario:By allowing interaction with several people, applications, messages and information at the same time, the use of the smartphone has grown a lot in the last decades and, although its greatest use is for message exchange, more recently it has been used for educational purposes. Thus, the objective of this systematic review was to understand how smartphones are used in formal training environments. Four databases were analyzed, between the year 2015 until June 2021, experimental articles and research that contain the words ‘education’ and ‘smartphone’ in the title and that address its application in a school/university environment. The results demonstrate that this mobile device has been well accepted by students and that it has been a motivational tool to encourage students to participate in classes, However, its use needs to be done with great care and strategy so that it is not itself the executioner of learning.
