Resumo:Ethnozoology can be used as an important tool for reaching information about reptiles and other animals. This ethnozoological study was developed in the city os Campina Grande in the state os Paraíba to investigate the popular knowledge, as well as beliefs, myths and superstitions regarding reptiles. The data were gathered through questionnaires, which were randomly applied in public urban spaces. The questionnaires presented themes related to i) knowledge of reptiles, ii) positive and negative values about these animals and iii) persecution and preservation of these species. After the analysis, it was possible to identify the respondents 'knowledge about reptiles, how these animals can be appreciated or repudiated, the respondents perception of living with these animals and the importance of their conservation. The results show that there is still a great misconception and lack of information about reptiles, and fear prevails especially of snakes. It is clear the need of environmental education that torgets reptiles in this specific region.
