Sumario:This article, inserted in the historiographical debates about the civil-military dictatorship in Brazil (1964-1985), intends to contribute to the knowledge of political history of the state of Pará before, during and after the coup of 1964. It preferably examines the participation of military forces and the support of civil society sectors to the military coup, and the repression suffered by the students, left-wing organizations and “populist” politicians. In the view of methodological studies of local and regional history, the main sources used were the newspapers of Belem, memoirs books, academic works and oral sources.
