Sumario:Studies on motherhood have long been present in psychoanalytic theories. Initially, from an intrapsychic viewpoint, Freud postulated the phenomenon as resolution for the feminine, centralizing the Oedipal subject. It is post-Freudian authors, such as Winnicott, who are willing to perceive the nuances of the inaugural relations between mothers and babies and thus, configure a new conceptual and theoretical scheme in the psychoanalytic field. Based on the premise that primary relationships are constituents in the provision of a good enough environment, this research aimed to discuss the consequences of a diagnosis of the congenital Zika virus syndrome in the establishment of a maternity hospital. As this is a esearch in psychoanalysis, a theoretical-clinical study was undertaken, where the researcher's progress in her clinical practice in a social services reference center specialized in social assistance in a small municipality in Pernambuco. Psychoanalysis called for by its ethical-political dimension becomes an instrument to discuss the problem highlighted by the context of vulnerability, in which the families affected by the congenital Zika virus syndrome were inserted. Supporting the hypothesis that a syndromic diagnosis that is still unknown and not very optimistic can resonate in a primal relationship between mother and baby, psychoanalysis is brought as possible support for the potentialities of this relationship. After seven years, after the start of the epidemic scenario, it is time to provide visibility to family plots, as relationship problems still persist.
