| Sumario: | In today's consumer society, non-standard body brings prejudice and discrimination, this can cause self-esteem problems in overweight people. Due to the importance of the theme, the present study aims to identify the perception of fatphobia among physical education professionals in the metropolitan region of Belem/PA who are overweight. Descriptive, exploratory and qualitative study. A semi-structured interview was conducted with eight questions about fatphobia, discrimination and prejudice directed at 10 physical education professionals. For data analysis, Content Analysis was used in the thematic modality proposed by Minayo (2014). The results showed that all professionals had already suffered some type of discrimination for being overweight. This triggered feelings of embarrassment due to bad taste and derogatory jokes. Respondents are concerned about being treated as people who incapable of carrying out activities of daily living. It is understood that these discriminatory and fat-phobic discourses must be overcome based on discussions and reflections on the subject, showing that not necessarily who is overweight is sick or slovenly. |
