Sumario:The Three-Dimensional Models (3D) have become an ally for the dentist surgeon in their clinical practice, optimizing results and operating time. This work aimed at defining the threshold for each area of interest by proposing a methodology for evaluating the quality of the segmented models and comparing the segmentation quality of both the free software InVesalius® and ITK-SNAP® assessing the reliability and accuracy of the surfaces exported in a semi-automatic way, producing a reference for use in different areas of Dentistry. 50 conical beam computed tomographs (TCFCs) were selected whose acquisition protocol consists of 2 captures with a field of vision of 20 cm in height, 16 cm in length and 16 cm wide with a reconstruction voxel of 0.4 mm and exposure factors 120 kVp; 36.9 mAs and an exposure time of 20 seconds, totaling a total examination time of 40 seconds. The most indicated minimum threshold for the jaw region had its average value of 370 ITK-SNAP® and 458 InVesalius® without significant differences between the programs, already on the jaw 212 ITK -SNAP ® and 282 InVeSalius ® and the condyle the region that presented itself most challenging 275 ITK – SNAP® & 318 InVESALIUS® being that in both regions the first software is most suited to carry out this segmentation. The methodology for evaluating segmented models has proved to be an effective tool. Generally speaking, the software that showed the highest segmentation quality was ITK-SNAP®, which showed better surface quality, fewer holes and better segmentation when compared to InVesalius®. However, in both programs it is possible to obtain the models effectively and free of charge.
