| Sumario: | This article examines the first project undertaken by Mayor Pereira Passos: the widening and extension of Sacramento Street (1903) from a historiographical and urbanistic perspective. This project marked the beginning of the urban transformations known as the "Passos Reform," playing a key role in understanding the reforms that shaped Rio de Janeiro throughout the 20th century and reflecting on the patterns and impacts of subsequent urban interventions. The study, based on the analysis of primary and secondary sources, reveals that the urban interventions in Rio de Janeiro, while modernizing, perpetuated inequalities, highlighting the need for reforms that balance modernity, social justice, and urban integration. |
