Sumario:Introduction: Entering university brings significant changes to an individual's life: changes in friendships, pressure to perform well academically, difficulty dealing with lack of affection, and changes in eating behavior. Research shows that most university students are dissatisfied with their body image. Objective: to evaluate university students' perception and satisfaction with their body image and identify sociocultural pressures regarding appearance. Materials and Methods: This is a cross-sectional study with a quantitative approach with 102 Brazilian university students. A form containing sociodemographic questions (gender, course, age, race, religion, etc.), self-reported weight and height, the validated SATAQ-4 questionnaire, and the Stunkard Body Figure Scale were used. Results and Discussion: Among the group analyzed, the average age was 25 years, with a prevalence of females (66.7%) and a normal BMI (53.9%). Regarding body image: 75.5% of the university students were dissatisfied with their body image and 39.22% saw themselves as having an image that was different from that compatible with their real BMI. The pressure to have a better physical shape was greater in relation to the media (65.7%) and family (56.9%) when compared to their peers (21.6%). Conclusion: It was concluded that most of the students were dissatisfied with their body image and saw themselves as having larger silhouettes than they actually had. The media and family were the ones that exerted the most pressure in relation to appearance.
