Sumario:The lack of consensus in translating the term media literacy raises concerns about the best way to approach it conceptually. Considering the intersections of the fields of Communication and Education from the perspective of Communication and its theoretical and epistemological construction, a bibliographic review was conducted using CAPES journal database. Articles with titles containing the main terms used to refer to media literacy were sought, aiming to understand how these terms are applied, their theoretical foundations, the methodological procedures used in the research, and their connections with reception studies. The main findings reveal the use of different terminologies, often without theoretical justification and treated as synonyms; the predominance of international authors in the conceptual framework; and the prevalence of bibliographic research and case studies as the main methodological approaches.
