Sumario:Poverty is often studied on the basis of a single dimension, predominantly represented by income. But there are other relevant dimensions in the discussions about the theme, such as, to be well nourished, to be well-sheltered, and to have good health, participation in society, among others. An approach which can help to sustain this multidimensional conception of poverty is the approach to human needs. Thus, this paper aims to present the evolutionary framework of this approach in order in order to establish a multidimensional concept for poverty. Through a theoretical analysis, throughout this study, it has been shown that approach to human needs is marked by a variety of interpretations. The approach has evolved to incorporate aspects that, if they are not satisfied, limit and prevent people from enjoying a decent life. Therefore, in opposition to the idea strictly based on income, the poverty is understood as non-satisfaction of needs.
