| Resumo: | ABSTRACT This article analyzes two short stories by the Portuguese author Eça de Queirós, “The handmaid” and “The treasure”, based on their relationship with the oral tradition of literature. Eça's work was renowned for its realistic and documentary bias, focused on the social issues of his time. However, the author also dedicated part of his work to expanding his raw material, turning to other narrative possibilities, such as the texts we present here, built on the popular pillars that precede them. The narratives under study, although written and rewritten based on oral and moralizing structures from the past, do not deviate from the author's critical project that aimed to paint Portuguese scenes. This is bibliographical research whose main theoretical keys are: Berardinelli (1997), Reynaud (2003) and Piwnik (1997; 2009). . Keywords: Eça de Queirós. Tales. Oral tradition. |
