This is an analytical cross-sectional design, developed in a university hospital in northeastern Brazil. The study population comprised patients undergoing follow-up treatment for acne with isotretinoin. Sampling was non-probabilistic, of the convenience type, and consisted of 10 participants. Socioeconomic variables, background, isotretinoin treatment data, and adverse effects on female external genitalia were collected. Univariate and bivariate statistics were calculated. Adverse effects on the external genitalia were presented by 40.0% of the women, with a minimum of three and a maximum of five complaints per participant. The most prevalent adverse effects were dyspareunia (40.0%), vaginal dryness (40.0%) and vulvovaginal burning (40.0%), occurring concomitantly. Most patients who underwent waxing on the external genitalia had adverse effects (75.0%). The mean number of platelets was significantly lower in women with adverse effects on the external genitalia (p=0.005). Women with acne grade III had a higher prevalence of adverse effects on the female external genitalia (75.0%). The mean time of use of isotretinoin was 7.5 months, with a mean daily dose of 0.5 mg/kg/day. Adverse effects on the female external genitalia resulting from the use of isotretinoin for the treatment of acne vulgaris appear mainly in the form of mucocutaneous alterations, but not in isolation. |

Este es un diseño transversal analítico, desarrollado en un hospital universitario en el noreste de Brasil. La población de estudio estuvo compuesta por pacientes en tratamiento de seguimiento por acné con isotretinoína. El muestreo fue no probabilístico, del tipo conveniencia, y estuvo conformado por 10 participantes. Se recogieron variables socioeconómicas, antecedentes, datos del tratamiento con isotretinoína y efectos adversos en los genitales externos femeninos. Se calcularon estadísticos univariados y bivariados. Los efectos adversos en los genitales externos fueron presentados por el 40,0% de las mujeres, con un mínimo de tres y un máximo de cinco quejas por participante. Los efectos adversos más prevalentes fueron dispareunia (40,0%), sequedad vaginal (40,0%) y ardor vulvovaginal (40,0%), ocurriendo concomitantemente. La mayoría de los pacientes que se sometieron a depilación con cera de los genitales externos presentaron efectos adversos (75,0%). El número medio de plaquetas fue significativamente menor en mujeres con efectos adversos en los genitales externos (p=0,005). Las mujeres con acné grado III tuvieron una mayor prevalencia de efectos adversos en los genitales externos femeninos (75,0%). El tiempo medio de uso de la isotretinoína fue de 7,5 meses, con una dosis media diaria de 0,5 mg/kg/día. A amostragem foi não probabilística, do tipo por conveniência, e ficou composta por 10 participantes. Foram coletadas variáveis socioeconômicas, antecedentes, dados do tratamento com isotretinoína e efeitos adversos na genitália externa feminina. Foram calculadas estatísticas uni e bivariadas. Efeitos adversos na genitália externa foram apresentados por 40,0% das mulheres, com mínimo de três e máximo de cinco queixas por participante. Os efeitos adversos mais prevalentes foram dispareunia (40,0%), secura vaginal (40,0%) e ardor vulvovaginal (40,0%), ocorrendo concomitantemente. A maioria das pacientes que realizaram depilação com cera na genitália externa apresentou efeitos adversos (75,0%). A média do número de plaquetas foi significativamente inferior nas mulheres com efeitos adversos na genitália externa (p=0,005). Mulheres com acne grau III tiveram maior prevalência de efeitos adversos na genitália externa feminina (75,0%).
