| Sumario: | Given the importance of motivation for effective learning, many theories have been developed so as to unravel how the motivational process happens in educational environments Among them, the Self-Determination Theory stands out. This theory suggests the existence of six distinct motivational types which vary according to the level of autonomy or control exercised upon the behavior of individuals. In this context, the present paper consists of a descriptive research of quantitative approach and applied nature that aims to measure the correlation that exists between the ages of the students and the motivational types suggested by the Self-Determination Theory. The research was based on the participation of 191 students from three different majors of a local university. The results indicate that age plays a fundamental role in the motivated behavior of students. Their quality of motivation is significantly impaired as they age and advance towards the final stages of graduation |
