| Resumo: | In this essay we present a document revealing the location of books and manuscripts in a Maroon house. Initial questions are raised regarding expectations of education, possession of books between slaves and freedmen. Education and reading experiences could be close not only to captives who worked in the big house, but also slave quarters and maroons. Even among the maroons, there were no social isolations that excluded access to slave quarters, trade exchanges and the circulation of Atlantic news. In view of the issues of teaching African history, slavery and post-emancipation, as well as the recognition of territories, ancestral cultures and the implementation of public policies, we evaluated the possibilities for reflection on the past of slavery and the present of maroon education. |
