| Sumario: | The creation of the National Public Security Fund (FNSP) in 2000 was an important step towards fostering intergovernmental cooperation in public security. Despite this important incentive, the Federal Government has been reluctant to assume a more relevant role in the coordination and strategic planning of public security policies. This paper analyzes police systems and public security policies in the federal states and then presents the results of a study of the FNSP and the relations between the Federal Government and state governments in the area of public security in Brazil. |
