We emphasize that Lobato did not give himself completely to this thinking, maintaining a positive view of progress and positioning himself in favor of the expansion of prophylactic and therapeutic measures, in addition to having high regards for sanitary doctors and their attenuating role in the national misery.Monteiro Lobato leu, citou e recomendou os livros de Friedrich Nietzsche, declarando ser ele o maior gênio da filosofia moderna. Estes dois homens viveram em um contexto de ascensão do pensamento biológico e do desenvolvimento da eugenia. O escritor, como o filósofo alemão, manifestou-se de formas distintas em favor do controle da reprodução humana em benefício de uma imagem normativa de homem.
