| Sumario: | The objective was to analyze the balance between the work and private life of former athletes during their time in professional sports. An interpretative epistemological orientation was adopted, opting for content analysis, investigating the influences of the social context in the career decision and interference of private life in the sports career. The results show that the relationship between work and private life of ex-athletes is marked by instabilities that make individuals abandon or change their profession since there is a series of negative interferences, such as dissatisfaction with financial returns and lack of balance between work and the personal life when living as a professional athlete. It appears that they choose to continue their progression in their sports career as educators, coaches, and members of athletic associations, not breaking their ties with the modality practiced. |
