Descripción
Sumario:Genital self-image is the perception that a woman has of her genitalia, influenced by external sociocultural factors in relation to the genital organ and by social and sexual experiences. Therefore, the positive or negative image of private parts can be directly related to the increase or decrease in sexual satisfaction. The objective of this study is to understand the relationship between genital self-image and its influence on aspects related to sexuality. The literature review method on genital self-image in women was used, considering only publications from the years 2018 to 2023, in Portuguese and English. The bibliographic survey was carried out in the MedLine, LILACS and SciELO databases.  It can be observed that women with positive genital satisfaction developed better sexual function and had reduced sexual dysfunctions. Furthermore, the understanding of these aspects is crucial not only to serve as guidelines for clinical interventions, but also to facilitate the promotion of health education regarding sexuality and body image.
