| Sumario: | On at least four occasions (one live, two meetings with supporters and a lecture) Bolsonaro used the term “arrobas” to refer to black people, justifying it as a joke. We understand that this type of aggressive and hostile humor against certain groups has been used as a discursive strategy by radical political actors to assert a position of social domination. Therefore, in paper we seek to analyze Bolsonaro’s speeches on the four occasions mentioned. By using Van Dijk’s socio-cognitive method, it was possible to evaluate power relations and cognitive constructions present in the selected speeches. At the same time, it was demonstrated how humor can be used as a tool for ideological propagation and domination. |
