Descripción
Sumario:This essay discusses the commercial availability of objects related to foodways in the city of Buenos Aires during the Viceroyalty of the Río de la Plata (1776-1810). To this information is added an analysis of the ways in which these utensils were used within domestics contexts. The material culture of these commercial and domestic contexts is approached through the analysis of inventories found in the city's probate records. As a result, the study suggests that both the different ways of organising food related activities within domestic contexts and the commercial supply of the related objects are partially a consequence of the social mobility and migrations propitiated by the creation of the Viceroyalty.
