Sumario:The characteristics of the palatal rugae, if different, immutable and perennial, makes it virtually impossible to find two individuals with the same pattern , provide the possibility of classification and identification of file quickly and easily . Objectives: To determine the most frequent type of rugae in 2011-2013 semester sophomores in Dental Surgery degree from the Autonomous University of Nayarit. Material and Methods: Descriptive, observational, cross-sectional study. Complete 66 top models in plaster, collected in the forensic unit learning Stomatology tenth semester 2011-2013 in the Academic Unit of Dentistry, Autonomous University of Nayarit were reviewed. Inclusion criteria were plaster models that were complete and clear impression of the palatal rugae. Format was used to describe and record the palatal rugae according to their form, position and type, called Rugoscopic or Rugograma record. Basauri method divided into four quadrants eight on the right side and four on the left side was used, with ten variants for classification . Results: The palatal rugae was presented more frequently with the winding 65.2 % (43), followed by the curve with 15.2 % (10).
