Descripción
Sumario:The objective of this work was to evaluate the plant stand for seed production of white cocoyam (Xanthosoma sagittifolium (L.) Schott) under agroecological conditions of the locality La Guanota, Caripe at Monagas state, Venezuela. In order to develop the idea, the work was carried at the Estación Experimental Hortícola San Agustín, Universidad de Oriente, located at 10º 12’46’’ NL and 63º 31’ 33’’ WL at 1 400 m a. s. l. and average temperatures of 23,5 ºC (maximum) and 10,5 ºC (minimum). Distances between plants (DBP) and between rows (DBR) of 0,8 m, 1 m and 1,2 m. were evaluated. A randomized block design in factorial arrangement was used with four replications. As a result, the mother plants had the typical stages of growing: establishment, development and maturation. The different distances of planting affected the weight of seeds and number and weight of commercial cormels. It was found that DBP of 1,2 m, in combination with the three DBR, promoted a bigger weight of seeds and largest number and weight of commercial cormels.
