Sumario:[ANGLÈS] In the design of steel structural elements sometimes is required very slender beams or it is necessary to bear long distances bridges, it is when the plate girders are useful. These beams are created from various welding steel plates, thus obtaining the desired shape. In the European steel codes, there is no reference how to approach the design of tapered beams. Codes simplify the tapered beam study to a rectangular case. This lack of development is because there are few models of ultimate capacity for tapered plate girders, most are based on models already established for rectangular panels of constant inertia girders (prismatic girders). In the study of the behavior of such girders should give the appearance of various phenomena that can be coupled in multiple occasions. Like the instability of the panels, the plasticizing of the material and the interaction with the bending moment. Specifically in this paper we focus on the study of the resistance to shear of the web panels with longitudinal stiffening. It seeks an easy way to calculate the critical resistance of the beams of variable inertia, since it has been stated in recent studies that in certain cases the formulation proposed in current codes gives unsafe values of the resistance to shear. The aim of this paper is to analyze the behavior of tapered plate girders with longitudinal stiffening, under the influence of shear. To achieve this objective, the results from a numerical model are going to be presented. In addition, it has carried out an experimental campaign of four beams with different geometrical characteristics to compare the validity of the study. Finally, for the cases under study, we have set out the conclusions of this analysis and a formulation that enhances the current designs proposals.
