Sumario:This paper focuses on the comparative analysis of the conceptual structures associated with the verbs desviar and evitar from a diachronic point of view. Along the evolution, these verbs have developed some meanings that express directionality, as well as a particular value that conveys implicit negation. The present study argues in favour of regarding the meanings implying negation as a derivation from the ones denoting directionality, and puts forward that both kinds of values may be associated to the same conceptual structure
