Descripción
Sumario:The study of public notariate, based on the many thousands of charters preserved, has been one of the most developed branches of iberian Diplomatics in recent decades. The NotFor research project (Notariado y construcción social de la realidad. Hacia una codificación del documento notarial, siglos XII–XVII) focuses on public notaries in the kingdoms of Castille and Portugal, their development, their social implantation and their documentary production. Analyzing the diplomatic structure of notarial charters has been one of the fundamental objectives of the project. Markup languages provide a useful tool to accomplish this task, but the standards in use such as TEI or CEI still offer a tagset that is limited to the basic metadata or the main elements of the diplomatic discourse. The objective of this paper is to show how a specific set of tags has been developed to describe and analyze the diplomatic structure of notarial documents.
