Descripción
Sumario:[EN] The intervention in the section of Oviedo city wall on calle Paraíso has led to its recovery and valorization, raising the profile of this Asset of Cultural Interest, which is key to understanding the formation and evolution of the city itself and was declared a historic-artistic monument by Decree on 3 June 1931. This walled city was chosen by Alfonso II in the 9th century as the seat for the court of the Asturian monarchy, as well as the departure point for the first pilgrimage to Compostela to see the newly discovered sepulchre of the Apostle Santiago. Alfonso X ordered the wall to be built at the height of the Reconquest. This article analyses the legal and heritage situation prior to intervention and contractual needs, as well as the progression of the construction of the wall, technical treatments, and project decision-making by the multidisciplinary team led by the architect José Ramón Fernández Molina.
