Sumario:This article aims to analyze what was the environment of the monastery of Suso at San Millán de la Cogolla (La Rioja, Spain), and the historical evolution of the constructions of the convent area, from the study of documentary and historiographical sources from the 10th century, and descriptions and repairs throughout the modern age up to the 20th century restoration projects, that it gave rise to the partial demolition of the Conventual buildings in 1967 and the final of 1973. Only the Church of the monastery has been preserved, which highlights the problem of understanding the meaning and conservation of this monument, declared World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1997.
