Descrição
Resumo:In Asturian, different types of ad sensum agreement are possible in which the morphological number of the sentential subject differs from that of the verb. Besides constructions in which this type of grammatical government expresses strictly quantitative values (either a compound referent in la xente somos fatos ‘people are stupid’ or a partitive in la mayoría nun entraron ‘most people didn’t come in’, like in Castilian) other more idiosyncratic examples express an associative sense by which the mention of a representative individual actually alludes to a group implicitly related to him (Xuan trabayen duro ‘[the team of] Xuan works hard’). The goal of this paper is to analyze this associative pattern (shared with other languages of very different types) within the framework of Asturian grammar, taking into account the particularisms of this language for the expression of quantitative, determinative or animacy values
