Descripción
Sumario:[EN] The' Neighbor is a graphic novel series that the author is drawing in collaboration with the scriptwriter Santiago García (National Comic Book Award 2015 with Las'meninas, by García and Javier Olivares). Planned as a five book series, three have been published so far (Ediciones Astiberri) and a fourth is in process. The'Neighbor is about two neighbors who live in an unidentified city of the 21st century, a sublimated mix of Madrid and Málaga. The work attempts to depict, in a tragicomic if not stranged fashion, daily life and personal relations in contemporary society, with the particularity of that one of the protagonists is a "superhero". Still, whenever he leaves to attend to the "task of the hero", his deeds remain out of sight for the reader –a creative dogma during the whole series. In this way, this fantastic element works as a poetic counterpoint to everyday life. The'Neighbor also investigates the ideological meanings of the superheroes clichés through a critical reading, not exempt of neither irony nor fascination towards a genre of fiction that has been fundamental in the history of comics. That said, the fourth part of the series will partly deviate from those previous artistic strategies, including unusual scenes in the superhero genre and an experimental form of multiple languages and textures (drawing, painting, photography, digital collage). This communication exposes the creative process of such fourth volume
