Sumario:In the Mexican Official Gazette of the Federation (OGF), 20th April 2021, the General Higher Education Act has been published, which is a new act that abrogates the Act for the Coordination of Higher Education (OGF, 29th December 1978). It is composed by 7 Titles and 21 additional transitory dispositions that integrate a total of 77 articles. All of them aim to fulfil the constitutional dispositions in the frame of the third article of the Politic Constitution of the Mexican United States. With this act, a new educational phase has been opened and it aims to support social, technological, labor, political and economic changes that are happening in the country. To attend to this diversity and bridge these aspirations, the act is essentially focused on keeping the autonomy of higher education centers, promoting equity as a basement for an educational model opened for all, contemplating a compulsory and gradually free educational stage that helps counteracting the high numbers of drop out university and higher education students in Mexico. Additionally, inclusion and excellence are other two big aims this act promotes and, in relation to them, there have been made proposals related to gender, diversity and also accountability, based on that educational quality they aim for. The GHEA is presented as a basic and supportive instrument to make progress in these achievements.
