| Sumario: | [EN] We start from a question with reference to Chrétien de Troyes novel, The Tale of the Grail: whether it can be considered that the first literary mention of the grail is found in this novel, dated c. 1181- 1182. Our study is based on a structural methodology: a signifier corresponds to a meaning. But understanding that the signifier should not be restricted to the word in double-articulated language, but also to the image in an artistic creation. This being so, we believe that the medieval Blessed Miniates (10th-13th centuries), editions of the Commentary on the Apocalypse of John by Saint Beatus of Liébana (8th century), are structured with meanings whose signifiers are, beyond words, the images of your thumbnails. In them appears, among other elements, the grail, which therefore should be considered as having a literary existence prior to Chrétien s Grail, even as source of his work the Tale of the Grail. |
