Descripción
Sumario:[EN] During the first half of the twentieth century, the Galician high seas fishing fleet that traditionally worked in the Grand Sole bank started to explore new routes in South Atlantic waters, with greater depth and profitability. This was a ‘swallow-type’ movement triggered by a political, environmental and economic multicausality, which is testimony to a chapter of Galician history with especial effects on the fishing population, a sector characterized by having a gendered division of labour. This article examines the ‘intra-history’ or everyday life of such movement and addresses fishing as a cultural system. As proposal of analysis in this understudied area, this article suggests an approach focused on the daily life of the crew members, whose traditional confinement and industry in the jail-ship bring a nutricional product with the highest standards to the consumer’s table
