Sumario:This article aims to discuss the country’s literary production in the eighties, especially to reflect on the notion of literary field; for this purpose, the contributions of sociologist Pierre Bourdieu are used. Thus, an attempt is made to argue the scope and limitations of the Ecuadorian literary field. Based on this, in a second moment, we analyze one of the most relevant works of this decade, Ciudad de invierno, by Abdón Ubidia (1979). This work reveals novel folds in Ecuadorian narrative; on the one hand, the modern city is narrated, and on the other, the plot and life of the characters move in a different dimension to the previous narrative.
