Sumario:In the contemporary phase of the modernity, in the middle of intensive cultural change, the individuals must look for a sense of their own existence by themselves, without the supports and certainties which were given by the State, role and social security, in the past. Nowadays, in a system of flexible capitalism, highly globalized and interdependent, the individual is requested to make a personal and constant work, to pursue on his own identity, the new form of sense. By means of a qualitative and interpretative approach, with a joined strategy based on the interview and the socio – analysis, what has emerged from the subject theory and the identity theory of Guy Bajoit but reconsidered as a diachronic and synchronous process. It was explored the life biography with the purpose of reveal the primary and secondary socialization process, the expansion of circles (groups) of socialization, and the relationships that the individual has established with the others, and with himself. This work inquired about how the person in poverty and inequality social position makes an agency work over himself to become in an individual, a subject, and actor of his own existence. It was focused on capabilities and antipoverty programs beneficiaries, in the urban context of Santiago de Chile. The findings were contextualized in the Latin American view by others paradigmatic studies about poverty and subjectivity about the region. The evidences show that poor individuals have the capacity to make an intensive reflexive exercise, make up a differentiated self-agency forms, some ones can turn in to an actor capable to do significantly changes in their relational position, while others are not able to articulate a life project. This difference would not be attributed to the initial family allocation resources, it can be considered as consequence of the socialization process. The presence of the “significant other” would allow the integration of certain structures into personal identity, building the relational expectations, and providing psychological resources that allow to manage the existential tensions.
