| Sumario: | Composting is a fundamental process in the sustainable management of organic waste, offering an environmentally responsible solution for recycling organic matter. It involves the biological production of heat, rapidly converting organic matter and releasing useful and beneficial substances to the soil. This study aims to analyze the quality and process of composting with sheep manure and bean straw and evaluate its performance in vegetable cultivation. The study was conducted in the experimental area in Ponta Grossa, Paraná, Brazil. The composting method used was the windrow type. Bean straw and sheep manure were used, with a compost formation period of 120 days. To evaluate the composting, lettuce was chosen, assessing plant height, fresh and dry mass, root system, plant diameter, and number of leaves in different soils and fertilizer mixtures. The composting showed positive results in pH, CEC (Cation Exchange Capacity), organic matter, moisture, and temperature parameters. The resulting organic materials showed a reduction in natural color, a decrease in odors, and adequate maturation. In the lettuce crop, the compost contributed to the development of the plants compared to soil without the presence of the compost. |
