Descripción
Sumario:It presents the Declaration of Public and Social Interest, provided for by Law. 8,159/1991 and regulated by Decree 4,073/2002, as an instrument for the patrimonialization of private collections and the implications of this recognition for institutions that preserve such documentary sets. The article seeks to highlight the implications arising from the endorsement of the Declaration of Public and Social Interest, including the commitments established by the institutions responsible for such collections, in addition to critically analyzing the process as a whole, discussing possible improvements to the device. Based on the analysis of the Circo Voador Collection, declared as being of public and social interest in January 2018, we examine how the instrument contributes to the development of practices that improve the processes of preservation and dissemination of private collections. Among the results achieved, it can be seen that, in general terms, the Declaration of Public and Social Interest is essential for safeguarding many Brazilian private collections that contain unique and relevant documents for history, culture and art.
