Sumario:The objective of this paper is to show urban interventions promoted by the government which brought tourist activities possibilities for two slums in Rio de Janeiro: Morro da Providência and Nova Brasilia. The first is located in the downtown, and the other in the periphery. The Methodology of this research was based on the existent bibliography about the two communities, including the photographic records of the slums, as well the history and the urban characteristics. It was made great research in archives, to find the urbanism project and it was also made two visits in the slums. The Morro da Providência was considered a museum, because of its historic importance. The narrow streets of this slum were transformed in marked paths, where the tourists can walk along, contemplating the unusual landscape and the downtown view. In Nova Brasília the main goal was to create new buildings to cultural activities. It was built a 3D cinema that attracts more people at each time. This type of governmental attitude can bring more work to the slums inhabitants and introduces a new way to integrate the city.
