| Sumario: | Hysteria and its manifestations have been present in human history for many years, and this phenomenon has been perceived and understood by various sectors. However, it was only after Freud's discoveries that hysteria took its place as an important communicator of symptoms and was the working material of the recently founded psychoanalysis. In psychiatry, hysteria was diluted among the infinite number of possible diagnoses, but the negative character associated with the term remained. This work uses a literature review to encompass hysteria and its communicative character, from Hippocrates, Charcot and the resumption of hysteria as a language of the unconscious by Lacan, who uses it as a theoretical foundation. On the other hand, rigid hysteria, seen in contemporary times, which manifests itself without the Lacanian signifier, was also analyzed. Considering the above, one can see the importance of hysteria in history and how in contemporary times, governed only by reality, the communicative nature of symptoms may have been lost. |
